Underlying Issues
Project of hope was established to address the needs of Somali children who are neglected due to lack of resources and facilities to address their special needs. The aim of Project-of-Hope is to advocate, provide care and support these children. This timely intervention is aimed at bringing hope, creating opportunities for proper social integration and the restructuring of the lives of these children. This will enable them to live with dignity, quality of life and as much independence as possible.
The present situation is that there are no schools and facilities in this area, which addresses the peculiar needs of the children with physical and mental disabilities. So these children have no education, no means of livelihood, no live aids and they are left at home to waste. They have no support as most of them come from the poorest of the poor families or lost either one or both parents and therefore have no one else to cater for them. They are among the most neglected in the country, which has for many years suffered through war and dictatorship. They require help to meet their basic educational and basic daily living needs.

Building and equipping the school in Hargeisa is a high priority need for Somaliland.
Project of hope will support the thousands of children who suffer from disabilities. The ones who are Blind, Deaf, Landmine Victimes, Amputees, children with Cerebral Palsy, Psychological Traumas, Muscular Dystrophy, Spastic Quadriplegia, Encephalitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spinal Bifida, Down's Syndrome... Due to lack of awareness, resources and know how, currently these children are not able to receive assistance and are neglected by the society at large .
This intervention will bring back hope, create opportunities, change destinies, attitudes, and restructure the lives of these children. |
